now a hostage as police wait out a lengthy standoff that started yesterday but it's still going on as we speak. midland city, alabama is where this is. police are with a 65-year-old suspect. the f.b.i. has also been called in to help. according to witnesses the suspect was upset because the child -- excuse me, the driver would not let the child off the bus. the suspect told the other kids to get off the bus, shot the driver four times according to police. he grabbed the child and then ran into a nearby bunker. schools in the area have been canceled for today. we're continuing to follow the story. we'll bring you more information as soon as we get it. time right now is 4:40. the dow is within striking distance of 14,000 for the first time since october 2007. and the latest rally thanks to another wave of strong profit reports. the dow stands this morning at 13,954. it gained more than 72 points in trading yesterday. nasdaq was down on the day,

going to be here for a while, not only with the cleanup but also with the investigation. let's take a little different shot and give you a different perspective. the beltway here, one lane gets by in each direction. you can access the beltway from route 50 itself. i would suggest you go ahead on the inner loop and use 450 to 202 and avoid it all together. give them the space they will need this morning through the rush hour to deal with the situation. i'll keep you posted. back you to, mike and jess. marijuana and prescription drug abuse continues to abgrowing problem among teenagers. this is according to a survey. some experts say feens are starting -- teens are starting to get mixed messages from celebrities and the legallallization of marijuana in many states. joining me is the director of the national institute on drug abuse. this is very glamorous these days, drugs and prescription drugs. how can we get some information out there to give teens about the real risks, doctor? >> i think what happens, is

drugs always -- it basically shows people being zairing and rebellious -- daring and rebellious but the reality is what drugs do to your brain which is particularly harmful to an adolescent. now we're addressing the concept of marijuana legallallization, what we are putting forward is the concept that marijuana may have purposes that is interpreted by some that it's not a dangerous drug. >> with depictions in the movies, commercials, you see them in print advertising, these are very glossy glamorizations of this kind of use. how do you combat it? >> i was smiling because it was exactly the same story with cigarette smoking. it was extraordinarily glamorous. you can see the movies of the '50s and '60s and very attractive people smoking. and yet the evidence and the recognition that there were harmful consequences that

changed. so that is the strategy to combat the glamorization of drugs is by providing objective evidence that can make individuals look at it and say is it worth it, is it worth it for looking glamorous for a couple of minutes. >> for parents and teenagers who would like to get more information about the real facts about drug use and drug abuse, where can they find that? >> drugabuse.gov. we'll also be doing the national drug facts week. it's an opportunity to host events and to actually have a chat with scientists for young people to ask questions regarding the effects of drugs. we have evidence based on scientific studies as opposed to personal experiences. >> thanks so much for joining us. we appreciate your time this morning. take care. i'm sure you've heard about this. super bowl sunday. and it's super bowl week in the city of new orleans. ravens versus 49ers on sunday. you can watch the game right
